Will this plan work

So, currently getting a budget for 14 out of 140 hours required per week for someone on 24/7 oxygen and very frail.

Council keep refusing to increase hours after 3 reviews.

So, I remember telling them I may be moving to my own place as getting married and social worker was worried and says we will need to know when your leaving to put measures in place seem to have changed the whole tone of the conversation to more serious. Still declined me.

So, plan is leave it to my brother to negotiate a better plan for more hours as I and 2 others have left home which has became a prison and affected health and well-being.

The more people that live at the house the less help you get fs even if they are registered disabled and incapable they still expect family to sacrifice their financial, physical, social well-being rather than pay for the service which the person in need is due.

Once an improved service is in place return could take months usually does.

Will this plan help or go against the person to be cared for.

@pipsy hiya pipsy ,I’m sorry that you are going through all this stress and worry. May I ask how old the caree is. I honestly don’t know whether it would make any difference or not. I know this is a different situation to yours and the person is on 24 hour a day oxygen I don’t know if that makes any difference to care packages but regarding councils I don’t know .a couple of years ago when I came out of hospital I couldn’t walk at all I could barely move. I lived on my own. And I got 14 hours and 35 minutes a week at the time. My neighbour had a fall struggles to walk can’t do things and because her husband is there .he told me they just get a call in the morning to help her and a call in the evening to help her and that is it he has to do the rest. The person who is on 24/7 oxygen and frail can they do anything for themselves. Who deals with the oxygen do medical people come in about that. I know people say that council can be different. I was told that all my council provide 4 calls a day is the maximum for care packages from the council .i think if someone had lived with me I may have got even less. Does the person who gets 14 hours a week. Is that 4 calls a day morning, lunch, tea and evening call. Meals and personal care. I was told that’s the maximum my council does by the hospital.i don’t know if your council is different to mine or if they are all the same. My friends dad is at home on end of life , lives on his own and the council will not increase the care he gets 4 calls a day .his family are having to take it in turns to sit with him and sleep over because the council won’t provide anymore care. A hospice place has provided someone to sleep 2 nights a week that is all they could spare which my friend is very grateful for. they are having to do the rest.I know none of this helps you. The care system is not good.

I heard the default is usually 14 hours regardless of your situation i think unless your registered pallitive type they give you more, however we once got 25 hours however after a review to get around 40-50 hours was actually reduced back to 14! They also took back ÂŁ4000 as they thought it wasnt required leaving a small balance to pay a PA.

4 calls per day is option 2 i think where the council manages it which we found awful going for option 1 or 4 (mixed) are best you can hire private PA who do more duties than council ones.

Look for young carers 17+ lower minimum wage plus you get more hours or volunteers along with travel costs and meals with a personal reference, im sure the cared for is an employer under their own name. Also, speak to councilers heard they can do things me and you cant and heck of a lot quicker. Contact charities and local carer centres. I had to battle with social work for 2 years before they gave her a budget!

@pipsy hiya pipsy. I don’t have care now I take care of myself .i can walk now sort of. But when I came out of hospital I couldn’t walk at all for months. The council put me through hell, the social workers didn’t do their job properly all complaints have gone in to the council regarding it all. I will never have anything to do with my council ever again. The stress from them made me more ill.i couldn’t go through that again.

My friend’s dad is on end of life at home and the council won’t give them anymore help than the 4 calls he had. Like I said a hospice place has offered two nights to sleep there.they are doing the rest.she works part time she has a sister. They doing alternate nights her son is at college he is sitting with him. I think it’s disgraceful. From what I can gather but I may be wrong it seems to be if someone needs more care that four calls a day then they look at other options like residential or care homes. Just be careful that they don’t start saying this person needs to go into somewhere if they need more care.

I know in 2024 there was a lot of changes reqarding care and funding. The carers I did have were lovely when I came out of hospital they were not council they were an agency who the council employs I picked them there was a choice of 4. I was totally out of it with pain at the time but luckily I found out I picked the best. They were lovely to me. Some were better than others. I’m sorry you are going through all this stress .
