Update on My Coping and Mum

Continuing the discussion from Newbie Carer Spinning:

Update is my Mum had a mini stroke. Lost use of her hand a bit. She’s had some lovely ladies out ( carer from hospital team/ OT ect) Im still trying to get her to eat properly, rather than sweets n packet cappacinos! We have some exercises to do together. She has slipped me money which helps. Her short term memory has been effected a bit. We have had an evening out again since my post too. Now also she has a nhs wheelchair, which I take her to the local shop in. Always walk her old dogs too and they love me for it lol. We haven’t got the scooter yet.

Learning " on the job" but not spinning like previously. Travel can take up to 3-4 hrs by buses. I have a travel card which gives me free travel home. Its 1hr taxi there. I am kinda used to it now ( wake 4am, leave house 6am!) Crazy I know. I’m taking driving lessons. Two whole hours to myself!

Would be nice for the move to happen! We are in the process of writing to mp’s ect. Be even better if the subject wasn’t raised in my precious " day off" ! Is there such a thing any way? The local council have only online submissions of evidence ( duly done since Oct 25!) but have not even changed/ updated her status.

My homelife, energy, and gardening fell by the wasteside a bit due to the daily 3x weeks hospital. Fairly sure, after some sleep catch ups, I’ll get there again. I do try to balance it all a bit.

Utmost respect and a little better understanding now for carers. Probably THE hardest job!

I have copd and asthma. I used to be agoraphobic and had anxiety for a while. Ageing is starting its show on me with bone aches!. Nearly a year now and I’m going to take/ insist a two week holiday. Some actual ME time!

Many Thanks all

Good to hear from you again.
Has mum now given you Power of Attorney?
Is she claiming Attendance Allowance?
Good to hear you are now having driving lessons.
Will mum move into a care home when you are on holiday?
