New member, need advice on home carers’ supplies

@bowlingbun have I offended anyone .i haven’t meant to do. I meant if no one is listening to them regarding discharge then contact PALS at the hospital before they are discharged as they will help them.

I was referring to me not offending anyone with delicate ears, like the mods!

I found PALS absolutely useless when mum was in Royal Bournemouth. I hope that Andy Burnham doesn’t decide to change for the sake of change, very often all the rules, guidance, etc. etc. are all agreed, just that they have never been implemented or policed properly.

When my son first moved into residential care CSCI still existed, they were brilliant, clear rules and regulations about what homes and providers should do and not do, especially on issues of client finances. I wish those rules were reintroduced, better than vague, meaningless statements.

Pals were useless for me as well. I never heard from them when I raised concerns with them.

When people are in hospital and they are going to be discharged and no one is listening who are they supposed to contact. Because all there is hospital to complain to is PALS.im sorry they never help you both.i didnt know what else to suggest people aren’t being listened to.

@bowlingbun i don’t know all this it’s only what I’ve heard and also what he said on the telly in an interview.years ago when he was something to do with health they tried then to do something about social care but it never happened not sure why. But in the pipeline there was 3 options .option 1 death tax so that when everyone passes they have two pay it. 2. Was make social care like care in wales. Free home care 3 I don’t know. Andy burnham believes that everyone should contribute . That’s just because say one family they get ill and another family doesn’t .one shouldn’t be more disadvantaged that the other just because they had to have care. How he will do it I don’t know. But those digital identification cards they were supposed to be bringing out Starmer delayed them. Andy burn-ham has scrapped them and the money from doing that is being put towards sorting social care.he said there’s better ways to spend the money

Welcome. The waterproof sheets are called Kylie sheets I think. In our area we’ve been supplied with free incontinence pull-ups for mum by Bladder and Bowel dept. Mum uses the highest absorbency as doubly incontinent. There’s a maximum amount they provide w we sometimes had to buy extr She’s now in a residential care home and they arrange her pads, medication etc. She’s just been turned down again for chc funding so most of her savings will be going on her care. This is so wrong but at least her money will be spent on her rather than us. Her care home is v expensive but is v good so hopefully it’s worth it.

Before care home :We labelled drawers containing her clothes, sheets, etc to try make it easier for her home carers to find things they needed as they were usually pushed for time. Also part of freezer labelled with ‘mums ready meals’ as she was alone through the day and unable to say what she wanted due to Alzheimer’s. We had cameras in her bedroom which seemed wrong at first but was so useful for her and our safety/security. Care company manager was all for cameras installation so that was good.

@Karen_Bee thats what there called Kyle I couldn’t think of the name of them .in my county you cannot get pull up pants anymore I don’t use them but I once asked district nurse for my friend as she was trying to get some for her relative and the council would only give her normal ones.so I asked the nurses for her and they said because of the cost those ones aren’t available anymore .i don’t know if it’s different county to county but there always something isn’t there.
