The gallery is a tribute to the millions of unpaid carers whose contributions all too often go unnoticed by society. By sharing your voices, we hope to bring greater respect and recognition to a vital role that will affect almost everyone at some time in their lives.
This project - Carers’ Lives in 100 objects - shines a light on the intimate and often unspoken realities of caring. It’s built around an object, nominated by the carer or the person cared for, which tells a unique story. A window into the commitment, exhaustion, endurance, resilience, impatience, love, pain and humour which may define their role. Whether an everyday item or a cherished keepsake, every picture tells a story.
This is a growing collection of photographic exhibits and words, created by the charity Stepping Out with Carers. To date they have published 21 of these wonderful tales - only with 79 to go! They have opened the invitation more widely by asking members, volunteers and friends of Carers UK to join the project and let them know their own stories.
