Carers UK’s Chief Executive, Heléna Herklots, collects CBE for services to family carers

25 April 2017

Heléna Herklots, Chief Executive of Carers UK, has been presented with a CBE for services to carers by the Princess Royal. Heléna was accompanied to the ceremony at Buckingham Palace by her husband, father and nephew.

Heléna has led Carers UK since 2012, after working for 25 years on ageing and older people’s issues.  From working with older people and their families in day centres and care homes, to campaigning for change, to developing and providing care and support services, Heléna’s personal experience and commitment to caring is at the heart of her approach.

Heléna passionately advocates for the value of caring and carers and leads the organisation’s work to drive awareness of and better support for those caring upaid.

Following the ceremony, Heléna Herklots CBE, Chief Executive of Carers UK said,

“It was such an honour to receive this award, and wonderful to share the day with my family. It has been a privilege to have worked with so many brilliant and dedicated people throughout my career. The Carers Movement is over 50 years old and in this time we have made huge strides in making a difference to carers’ lives, but there is still more work to be done.

This award is recognition of the work of Carers UK and of the invaluable contribution that families and friends that support loved ones are making every day.”

Professor David Grayson CBE, Chairman of Carers UK, said,

“Heléna’s award is a great achievement and we are very proud of her and all that she’s done with carers to work for a society that respects, values and supports carers. The award is recognition, not only of her enormous personal contribution to improving the lives of carers and those that they support; but also a reflection of the growing awareness of the 6.5 million people across the UK caring unpaid."
