How you can partner with us

At Carers UK, we work for a society which respects, values and supports carers. To achieve this we need businesses like yours on board.

Why does caring matter to your business?

One in seven employees in your workplace could be carers. 4.87 million people in the UK are currently juggling paid work and caring. Over the next two decades, the number of carers in the UK is expected to grow as our population ages.

As this happens, organisations will need to adapt to recognise and support staff who are also carers, making it possible for them to stay in work.

Every business is different – so each of our partnerships is too. We'd love to talk to you about some of the ways we might be able to work together. Take a look at some of these examples of popular opportunities we offer.

Employee engagement

Increasingly, companies are seeing the benefits of working with a charity partner for multiple years, embedding the partnership within the organisation's culture to deliver mutually beneficial results with a lasting legacy.

As a partner we can offer you a range of different resources for your employees including:

  • Lunch and learns
  • Research
  • Toolkits
  • Management support
  • Digital resources
  • And more...

The more your staff get engaged with our partnership, the more powerful it will be. Whether they want to raise money for us, or donate their time and skills, we can suggest a package of exciting, meaningful activities to put your staff right at the heart of our work.

There are plenty of fun ways for your staff to raise money to support our work. An easy way to get started is hosting a Pop the Kettle On; you could also test your colleagues in an Apprentice-style challenge or even set up a five-a-side football or netball tournament. See more of our fundraising challenges here.

Volunteering opportunities

Your time, skills and experience can help us make sure no one has to care alone.

We have a dedicated team of volunteers working across the UK to improve services, support carers, campaign, fundraise and raise awareness of caring.

As a volunteer we will support you to use your existing skills and develop new ones while helping to make life better for carers and their loved ones.

We'd love to help you come up with or develop great fundraising ideas that relate to your business and can be applied in your work environment.

work for good

It’s completely up to you to define how you and your business decide to give and how much. Be creative on how it works best to achieve the business benefits you want, at the same time as doing good. Here are a few examples to get you started:

Turn your time directly into money. For example: "Instead of the team volunteering a day to dig a garden, we’ll do what we’re really good at for a day, and donate the money instead."

A % portion or specific figure that you’d like to donate from a project. For example: "We’ll donate 5% of the profit from this project" or "we’ll donate £500 from this project."

The money made from a specific Work for Good promotion event. For example: "We’ll donate the first month’s fee from every new subscriber to our service this month."

A portion of the extra money you make when you and your team do well. For example: "If we beat our quarterly sales target, we’ll give 5% of any extra profit."

Join Employers for Carers

The number of carers in the UK could increase by 50% to 9.1 million by 2037. As a result, more people will be combining work and caring, and doing this for longer.

There has never been a more important time to focus on the benefits of retaining skilled workers rather than incurring the costs of recruiting and retraining new staff.

At the heart of Employers for Carers is a leadership group of employers, large and small, who are already rising to the challenge of supporting carers in their workforce and have a wealth of good practice and experience to share.

What does EfC do?

• Provide advice and support for employers seeking to develop carer friendly policy and practice and retain skilled workers.

• Identify and promote the business benefits of supporting carers in the workplace.

• Influence government and employment policy and practice to create a culture which supports carers in and into work.

What do you get when you join?

Employers for Carers membership benefits include:

• Dedicated resources, guides and practical advice for managers and carers including case studies, model policies, FAQs and tools and tips.

• Bringing our expertise into your business, through a free information or strategy session, our popular ‘lunch and learn’ events and additional consultancy and training services.

• Opportunity to share and learn from other employers including at our regular member networking events.
